Michael was born into a family of martial artists, so he has been exposed to various martial arts since childhood. He first stepped on the mat to improve his flexibility for his martial arts training, but after his first practice, he found that yoga, just like martial arts, is as much a physical as it is a mental practice. Yoga's emphasis on a balanced and disciplined lifestyle really speaks to Michael and he has grown tremendously after embarking on his yoga path. Michael graduated in dramatic literature from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. He's also had 15 years of personal training experience and has been teaching yoga full time since 2002. He is very grateful to his hot yoga teacher Bill Arce for his guidance and teachings. Bill's dedication, professionalism and integrity have greatly influenced Michael on and off the mat and how he teaches. Michael's classes are lively with a good dose of humour, so his classroom is often filled with laughter. However, his classes are also challenging; with a background in personal training, he hopes to raise the fitness level of his students through yoga practice. He is particularly skilled in showing students how to get into a pose with good alignment. With a heart to inspire, Michael is also known for sharing verses and affirmations that he likes in his class.
