Joshua Jon

Joshua Jon

Ngee Ann City, Orchard Road, Singapore

Joshua spent most of his youth actively engaged in fitness. From 11, he was part of the track and field team, representing his school in the high jump and 100m sprints. He has shown concern about his body image being severely underweight. This sparked his need for physical changes. He left track and field when he was 15 after being introduced to weightlifting by his friends. When he was in the 3rd Battalion Singapore Guards during his National Service, he decided to explore callisthenics and transitioned to a more functional approach to fitness. Today, Joshua has made a significant progression in terms of fitness. He now feels better and more confident because of his lifestyle shift. His point of view would be to make training a part of who you are, to endure the pain, keep going, push hard, embrace the process, and enjoy the fulfilment that comes with it. Fitness has always been a part of his life, and he eventually decided it would be a career since it helped shape who he is today. His interaction with his clients is more on a friendship level to forge trust and a genuine relationship. His method of inspiring his clients is centred on his belief that "discipline beats motivation," which emphasises that with correct discipline, anyone can do anything they set their minds to. Tell us about one client on whom you had the biggest influence? A client came to me with no prior weightlifting knowledge. He was curious about why people should lift weights and how it would help them lose weight. I taught him the fundamentals of weightlifting and its significance from the ground up. He was able to grasp the technique and gradually push himself to lift heavier weights. He now looks forward to each workout. He also stated that he feels more confident and enjoys the gratification that comes with lifting weights.
